It's an easy road trip, around 3.5 hours from Melbourne, just over two hours from Geelong and only 30 minutes from Warrnambool, making it the perfect destination for a race weekend escape.

Once you arrive, you'll understand why so many runners come back year after year. Port Fairy has a way of slowing you down.

Grab a coffee from a local café. Wander the historic streets. Pick up something special from one of the boutiques, or settle in for a long lunch with friends. The beach is never far away, and neither is another great view.

And if you've got an extra day (or more!), use it. Pamper yourself at a spa, explore the incredible walking trails, visit Griffiths Island or simply find a spot by the water and enjoy the sea air. There are plenty of reasons to leave the running shoes off for a while.

Then, when it's time to race, you'll head out on a course that feels unmistakably Port Fairy. Ocean views. Quiet country roads. Fresh sea air and a town that gets behind every runner.

All in all, Port Fairy Marathon is Victoria's favourite excuse to lace up and head to the coast. Since 2021, it's been less about chasing a PB (though plenty do) and more about a whole town turning out for a weekend of running, cheering and celebrating one of Australia's prettiest seaside towns. Every February, runners take on a marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, or the 1.5km Fun Sized Run - we’re flat, scenic and friendly to first-timers and seasoned runners. Also, every entry sold puts money straight back into Port Fairy Consolidated School, so you're not just running a great course, you're helping the local kids too. Come for the run, stay for the incredible food and you'll see why so many runners make Port Fairy an annual tradition.

The Port Fairy Marathon and Community Running Festival is proud to be an inclusive, welcoming event for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Whether you run, walk, roll, volunteer, cheer from the sidelines or simply come along to enjoy the event, you are an important part of the Port Fairy Marathon community.
